Adam D’Souza
“Enormous thanks to you, Adam, for your consistency, your belief, your encouragement, your unerring support, your attention to detail and your meticulous lesson planning right from the very first lesson. You are a top notch tutor – a cut above the rest – and we could not have done all this without you.
— Liv, happy parent, Surrey, with three children guided into right-fit day and boarding schools
“Children only have one childhood. Select:ed is the result of my frustration that the London education system seemed like a relentless production line of exam results, without no real pause to ask why.”
Children only have one childhood. Select:ed is the result of my frustration that the London education system seemed like a relentless production line of exam results, without no real pause to ask why.
My aim is to lead children towards academic success while creating space for them (and you as parents!) to enjoy the journey on the way. The empathetic approach of my entire Select:ed team acknowledges the equal importance of intellectual rigour and emotional wellbeing.
I have had the privilege of teaching in some of the country’s most forward-thinking schools. I have taught children from primary to A Level, from all around the world. I have found the key to effective teaching is tapping into what motivates each student; once you have that rapport, you can stretch a child and challenge them to surpass their own expectations, beyond what they ever thought possible.
Select:ed has opened doors to world-leading schools for more than two hundred families since 2019. These include some of the most renowned, academically selective institutions: Westminster School, St Paul’s Girls’ School, King’s College School Wimbledon, Dulwich College, Brighton College, Tonbridge School, Sevenoaks School, Wellington College and 50+ more schools.
My educational philosophy prioritises academic value-add: pushing for outstanding progress, whatever a child’s starting point. I am, therefore, equally proud of students, including neurodivergent children, who have secured places at less academically competitive schools, but those which are the right-fit school for them, cultivating their sporting, musical, dramatic or artistic talent, for instance.
The thread that’s always run through my life is a love of language. I studied classics at university, but if I could go back now, I think I would study modern languages or philosophy. Perhaps ironically for someone who studied the ancient world, my first career was in advertising, applying the latest psychological research techniques to brands. Since discovering my vocation for teaching, I have developed expertise on the culture and entry processes of schools around the world, with a particular specialism in London 11+ and 13+ British boarding school admissions. I have also served on the founding management team of an international schools group and am currently a board director of a specialist not-for-profit SEND schools operator.
